Trick is a productivity app for Mac, developed in response to a crowded ecosystem of tools that often feel either overly complex or overly simplistic. Many productivity systems fragment attention across multiple apps: tasks, notes, timers, references, creating mental clutter and cognitive overload rather than clarity. Trick was conceived as a side project to explore how visual simplicity and integration could fundamentally improve how people experience their daily workflow.
Objective
To design a focused, holistic productivity tool that reduces overwhelm by making work visible, intuitive, and calm, bringing essential functions into a single space while helping users prioritise clearly and work with less friction.
Solution
I designed the UX/UI system and visual identity around the principle of visual clarity. Trick integrates tasks, notes, timers, and references into one clean, distraction-free interface, removing the need to switch between tools. A colour-coded categorisation system allows users to visually organise priorities at a glance, replacing hidden menus and dense lists with immediate understanding. The minimalist design ensures focus without overwhelm, creating a fluid workspace where everything feels intentional and accessible.
Results
Trick offers an alternative approach to productivity; one that treats clarity as a core function rather than an aesthetic choice. By reducing cognitive load and unifying scattered workflows, the app helps users feel more in control of their time and attention. The result is a calmer, more structured way of working, where productivity feels intuitive, sustainable, and genuinely supportive of everyday professional life.
